Polishing Directions

You never want to spray the furniture polish directly onto the wood. Pour or spray the homemade furniture polish onto a clean white cloth, and work it in, and wipe with the grain. If your wooden furniture looked dull and lifeless, the furniture polish will immediately bring back a warm and vibrant luster into your furniture pieces.  If the wood still looks dry, let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes, then repeat the polishing process again. If your wooden furniture has detailed wood work, use the same polishing process and then using an old toothbrush or soft-bristle brush to work the furniture polish into the hard to reach grooves.

Restoring Old Wood

It is possible to restore your old wooden furniture; you do not have to throw it out. Take some petroleum jelly and work it into the wood with your fingers. If your wooden furniture is in terrible shape, leave the petroleum jelly on for a set amount of time. After you’ve let it sit, finish the process by massaging the jelly into the wood grain, and then buff the furniture with a clean cloth.

Removing Stubborn Marks

For old marker or pen stains that you have been looking at for the past couple years, this is a job for Mayonnaise! All you need to do is mix some mayonnaise with some Rottenstone, which is a mild pumice. Once you have the two ingredients mixed, rub it onto the spot in the direction of the wood grain. This process may take some patience, as you will gently buff the mixture over the mark.

As you can see it’s very simple to make a cheap earth-friendly furniture polish! Don’t waste your money going to the store to purchase expensive cleaners that contain harsh chemicals.
