Benefits of having carpet in your home

Here we are going to discuss the benefits of carpet from a personal health perspective. Not about dirty carpet, but the health benefits of having carpet in your home and how it can help you. Home owners don’t really consider the health benefits of carpet versus other flooring options (ie:hardwood & tile). But, there are significant benefits to having carpet over other flooring options, especially if your looking for comfort which translates into less stress on your body. Yep…less stress!

For example, your shoes have cushion in them for a reason and that is to reduce wear on your feet, ankles and legs…less stress! Therefore, creating a healthier environment for your body.

Here’s another way of looking at it, take a baseball bat and strike it on concrete, then take a baseball bat and strike it on a carpet surface…speaks for itself…kinda a no brainer!

It’s the same reason Yoga mats exist…less stress while doing yoga. The bottom line, if your looking to reduce stress on the body then carpet is a great choice.

Having been in the carpet cleaning business for years, many of our elderly customers almost always have carpet in their homes. As the elderly are more prone to slips and falls, they say it really helps with their footing and is much easier on their joints…understood!

One of the other reasons described is that carpet just doesn’t get cold or hot…it stays neutral and is more pleasant to walk on.

Many moms with young children say the same thing, but, there are also other advantages to owning carpet for young children and babies. As we all know, infants, toddlers and young children have slips and falls as stated above for the elderly. Carpet provides some protection against impact, which may help cushion the blow. Nothing is full-proof, but having some padding is better than nothing. Young children and dogs have been known to knock glass objects off a coffee table and they would break. Carpet allows some cushion and you just might salvage the item from breaking.

So, it sounds like one of the main reasons why home owners have carpet is because of the cushion they get from it…this is true!

But, there is another, especially in a second story home! You guessed it…noise cancellation! Yes, for noise cancellation carpet is your best option out there. There is not another flooring that will reduce noise like carpet with padding underneath…not a glue down. This is why you do not see many homes with hard surfaces on a second level. As most second level sub-flooring is made of wood, any type of movement is typically heard with a hard surface. Such as, women walking in high heels, boots or any movement like running or jumping around. Once again, carpet to the rescue, only carpet can reduce the effects of noise with tremendous results!

The bottom line, there are several flooring options to choose from, but carpet is the the only option with unique characteristics that improve not only the look of your home, but provides cushion and comfort with safety benefits.
