Summer is coming and that means you need to prepare for your dog’s home while you are away.  Summer vacations can be fun but you need to make sure your pets are well taken care of while you are away.   We all love our pets and it can be a very difficult decision also.  How do we choose what is right for our pets?   It would be wise to do your research online and ask every one you know of their recommendations on where to put your pets.

Choosing a boarding facility:

  • Always visit the facility first and take a tour around the place.  Don’t call to make an appointment but go and visit unexpectedly to see for yourself.  See every room your pet will be in.  Sleeping quarters, play areas etc…most reputable boarding facility will have a webcam so you can check in daily to see them playing in the play rooms daily.
  • Is the facility clean and fresh?  You can tell when you first walk in.
  • Is the facility run 24/7
  • You can bring your pet’s food and treats.  They will ask for your pets daily feeding time and special foods that you bring.

How many times a day to feed him, if they need medication or if they take naps during the day etc…

  • You can bring your pet’s special blanket, or toys to make them feel more comfortable.
  • Are they friendly and courteous and answer all your questions?
  • Do they seem to love pets and interact well with your pet and others?
  • Do they ask about your vaccinations and paperwork?
  • Are they play rooms monitored during the day?
  • Is the area cleaned as they play throughout the day?
  • How big is the rooms they are kept in.  Is it big enough for many animals to roam in?
  • Are the big and little dogs separated by different areas?
  • Is there a veterinary clinic on site 24/7?

These are many factors that you will need to check and have answered for you before you make the chose.  There are many good boarding facilities in your area.  You must decide which is best for you and your pets.
