One of the most popular carpeting choices in American households is Berber. Origins of Berber carpet have been traced back to North Africa during the paleolithic era. The hand spun cloth the Berbers made, was named after their tribe.

Why Choose Berber?
  •  Berber’s greatest advantage is it’s stain resistant capabilities. Berber is a loop pile carpet which characteristics include alternating large and small tufts of fibers.
  • The looped weave of Berber protects the carpet from quickly accumulating dirt like cut-pile or plush carpet, but it also tends to trap that dirt once it does get in there
  • The multiple levels of this carpet make footprints and dirt far less noticeable. It’s also extremely durable which is the perfect carpeting choice for your high traffic areas
  • (For example a living room, hallway, or entryway)
  • Today’s modern industrialized Berber carpet gives an incredibly similar appearance to the traditional woven knots of Berber carpets.
  • There are hundreds of design and colors to choose from!
How to Properly Clean Berber Carpet
Something many people don’t understand about Berber carpet is you simply cannot clean Berber the same way you would clean a Saxony or Shag carpet. Since Berber is a loop pile constructed fiber, you cannot rub it back and forth. Rubbing Berber back and forth may cause the fibers to unravel and fray. Once the fibers begin unraveling, your carpet will have loose strings that can snag and catch on objects very easily. But there’s no need to get discouraged, once you have the cleaning technique down, it’s quite simple!
A wet extraction is still the preferred method of cleaning. The best vacuum for Berber carpet is one with high suction power and without a brush. A Vacuum brush can potentially snag and unravel fibers.

Berber Cleaning Tips
Regularly vacuum your carpet for dirt and debris *But if portions of the Berber fibers have come “unlooped”, you do not want to vacuum over these areas. When Berber becomes unraveled it’s easy for it to snag and then run. Clean up spills as soon as possible! First use cold water to clean the stain up in a blotting motion. NEVER RUB BERBER CARPET! If cleaning with cold water doesn’t do the trick, then try throwing some baking soda on the spill. The baking soda acts as a sponge, picking up the liquid without pushing the stain further into the carpet padding. Allow the baking soda to sit and work for about 30 seconds, before vacuuming up the remaining baking soda. You can repeat this process until the baking soda doesn’t absorb anymore of the stain. It’s imperative that no moisture is left behind! For old, stubborn stains let the professionals clean your carpet and save you the hassle!
Remember, Berber carpet is not anymore difficult to clean than any other types of carpets. Just keep in mind that moisture removal is key when it comes to Berber carpets. With the proper care and maintenance you can keep your Berber carpet looking amazing and have a long lifespan.
