There are many uses for vinegar in our cooking, but vinegar can also be used to help in our everyday chores around the house. Many people do not realize that vinegar is a form of a “Mild Acid” that can reverse many staining and odor issues if used properly (very important). Using vinegar is safe for you and your family and will not cause any adverse problems, but the dilution rate is very important as well (over-saturation is not good) and can cause further odor issues in not done properly. Below are a few tips on how vinegar can be used safely to resolve some common household chores.
- Removing pet stains and odor in carpets with the hottest tap water will help with your pet’s accidents in between your professional carpet cleanings.
Be sure to vacuum your carpet thoroughly prior to using your home extractor.
Mix ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar to 1 gallon of hot water in your machine and begin to clean the pet stain.
Important Tips
Do not over saturate the stained area with too much vinegar solution, as the padding below will become saturated and cause further odor problems. You can use the machines vacuum only to remove excess solution in the carpet.
- To remove pet stains quickly, use distilled vinegar and pour onto the stain and let sit for few minutes. Take a sponge and work from center out then blot dry with a dry cloth. You might need to repeat this process for more stubborn stains.
- To control fleas on your pets use a teaspoon of white distilled vinegar to a quart of water in their drinking bowel. The ratio of 1 teaspoon is for 1 quart for a 40 pound animal. This helps keep the fleas off your pets.
- Use apple cider vinegar in your dishwasher to make your dishes shiny and it also eliminates odors. Keeping your dishwater odor free at the same time.
- Instead of using a toilet bowel cleaner, try pouring a little apple cider vinegar in your toilet bowel and let it sit for 15 minutes. Brush well with a toilet scrubber and it removes dirt and grime, it also freshens your toilet.
- To clean your gold jewelry, use 1 cup of apple vinegar to clean your gold jewelry. Submerge your gold in the apple cider solution for 15 minutes. Then pat dry with a dry cloth.
- To clean your brass, copper and pewter to help the shine, use 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 cup of white distilled vinegar and mix into a paste. Let it sit on the item for 15 minutes then rinse with warm water and dry with dry cloth.
