You’ve taken all the precautions to keep your carpets looking clean but that one person that drops that cigarette or cigar at a gathering can cause a major eye sore to your once beautiful well cared for carpets.  So, what do you do?  We try to hide it by moving the sofa, any other piece of furniture or rugs to put on top of it to hide it from other viewers.  What’s out of sight is out of mind.  Most people would hire a carpet repair company to replace or repair the burned carpet at a huge cost.  This is not necessary at all.  This is an easy simple fix you can do yourself at no cost.   Here are some simple tips to follow.

Simple easy tips repairing small cigarette burns:

Snip away the singed edges of the carpet with fine manicure scissors.

Use tweezers to pull out the singed fibers.

Use your manicure scissors to pull out a small amount of undamaged part of the carpet from somewhere else where it’s hidden no one sees.  Make sure to retain the length of the fiber as much as possible.

Place strong household glue and place the small fibers on the glue.  Try to add the same amount of carpet fibers as the ones you had to remove. Allow the area to dry completely.

Place a heavy book on it for several days.

Remove the book and Comb out fibers with a wide tooth comb so they are flush with the surrounding carpeted area.

Larger areas need a patch:

If you have a large piece of carpet that you have to replace, skip these steps and make a carpet patch instead.  This will involve cutting out a section wider than the burn and replacing it with a new section. It’s always a good idea to save leftover carpet remnants when you initially install the carpet.  This way you’ll have the original carpeting to make a carpet patch when and if you ever need to repair damaged carpet.  If you didn’t save a carpet remnant, don’t panic! You can simply remove a small section of the carpeting from inside a closet.  Always remember you can do these simple fixes on your own at no cost.  Repairing cigarette burns is a very simple.
