Which is better? Green cleaners, solvent based cleaners or detergent based cleaning solutions. Some have probably asked this question and the answer is “Which Do You Prefer” as they all work, but some will emulsify or clean better…it’s really personal preference. You have probably heard through the grapevine that “Green Cleaners” are the newest thing being developed today for the “Do It Yourself” group. This is a “myth” as green cleaning solutions have been around for years! My point, Oranges, lemons and limes have been used for years in green cleaning products and work quite well. In some cases they work better as they will not discolor or fade certain materials or fabrics and the saturation level is quite substantial…they do work! Whether it’ s your stove-top, vent-a-hood or just being used as a general cleaner, citrus products make great emulsifiers. There are many professional companies today that supplement their commercial cleaning products with concentrated “Green” citrus products to achieve great results. The high “Acidic Rate” packs a punch! Don’t be fooled by mis-information, these products work quite well! We are not promoting the use of these products, but having used various green products through the years and achieved great results. And “Yes” they are better for the environment. Solvents are liquids (ie:chemicals) that have the ability to dissolve, suspend or extract other materials. Are they safe? With normal exposure…yes! Most things in “Excess” can sometimes cause more harm than good…leave it at that. Hazards associated with solvent exposure are toxicity to nervous system, reproductive damage, respiratory impairment, cancer and dermatitis. Either way, most things these days are processed in some way. Either added to or taken from, processed is exactly that…processed! And “Yes” they work a great cleaners. They can strip paint, oil , grease and tar easily! If your looking for the ” Quick Fix” then solvents are the way to go. They tackle the toughest cleaning jobs with ease. But, be careful when using these products. Use in well ventiated areas and contact with skin and eyes can cause serious injury. So, what’s the difference between a solvent and a detergent? Not much really, they both emulsify and clean well! The chemical composition is where the difference really matters. But, most cleaners require some sort of liquid solvent. The bottom line, you can achieve great results with either product ” Green” or not. Some of these products have benefitted from technology and some are just ” Natures Little Miracle” but the decision is yours.
