So where do I begin? First of all, this topic might be controversial for some, but not others who want the facts about carpet cleaning. Carpet cleaning services and the technology used in the industry is not new by any means. Actually, the most commonly used method of carpet cleaning (Hot Water Extraction) had been around since the 1950’s and has just been modified through the years…not changed! Essentially, your dealing with decades old technology even in todays modern world of carpet cleaning. So the question is, if current carpet cleaning technology has been around this long, then why do so many carpet cleaners make mistakes in the field? Let’s talk about it…

Honestly, the answer is probably no surprise to you! Drum roll please, the answer is, you guessed it…MARKETING!!! Go figure this one…right? Your probably asking yourself, how can marketing screw up my carpet? Believe me, it screws things up more than you know! The problem is, some carpet cleaners “Believe It” and “Buy Into It” and this is where the problem exists! What I’m referring to is the carpet cleaning industry as a whole and how carpet cleaning chemical companies “Sell” and “Market” their products to the carpet cleaning industry. The truth is, most of the chemicals produced and marketed to the carpet cleaning industry are either NOT NEEDED or NOT HEALTHY for you and your family…that’s the bottom line! I’m not going to mention names here, but there are many products sold on the market today that should be outright banned!

Moving forward, there are simply too many companies and products being peddled by these companies. Most of the carpet cleaning supply houses are in the business of selling such products to the companies that clean your carpet! Imagine this, most of the carpet cleaning supply houses are a good size, probably between 3,000 – 5,000 square feet of nothing but carpet cleaning products and chemicals. My point, that’s way too many chemicals for cleaning carpet! I mean there is a product for everything such as Paint Oil & Grease Removers, Citrus Solvents, Detergents, Non-Detergents, Dye Transfer Chemicals, Traffic Lane Pre-Spray and the list goes on and on! The truth is, if your a good carpet cleaner and truly understand how carpet cleaning works, then you really DON’T NEED any of these products at all! But, the carpet cleaning industry “Claims” you need this garbage to clean carpet! Not to mention, the carpet cleaning schools that indoctrinate companies to buy this junk! In the end, most of these products are simply not needed and gum-up your carpet with residue! Not to mention the (OFF GASSING) these products produce and smells terrible!

Please don’t take me wrong here, I love the carpet cleaning industry and there are GOOD companies out there, but the industry as a whole should really start to consider the consequences of these products and the damage they can cause! Not to mention, the environmental damage these products cause. I believe, most of these chemicals were manufactured for warehouse office buildings and other industrial purposes. Even then, the toxicity still exists which pollutes our environment and your home! All that is needed to clean carpet is a PROPERLY TRAINED and QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN who understands the extraction process and how it works! I say this because understanding this process is the foundation that carpet cleaning has been built on…nothing more! That knowledge, along with proper machine maintenance, understanding cleaning products and how to mix them properly is a big deal! Last, having a technician that disposes of the “WASTE WATER” properly is even more important!

In summation, there are some good carpet cleaning products on the market today, some worse than others, but don’t buy into the “THERE’S A PRODUCT FOR EVERYTHING MENTALITY” because it’s simple NOT TRUE and just using some common sense goes a long way!
