We love our beautiful homes stain free and odor free from our carpets.  But we cannot help with the little accidents that come with our daily lives with children and pets especially.  There are household products that can keep your home stain free and odor free before it becomes a nuisance.  Of course this is not in place of your regular professional carpet cleaner but it will help in between times without using chemicals that can fade or damage your carpets.  Many consumers use products for stain removal thinking it does the trick but in the long run, it can leave a bleach spots all over your carpets.  Making your beautiful plush carpets an eye sore.  You have seen the spots on your carpets throughout your home and it cannot be avoided.  Using more natural products may save your carpets in between your professional cleaning.  Here are some simple tips for home remedies on the spot.

  • Club Soda as a neutralizer on the carpets. When you spill coffee, soft drinks, food or oily stains occurs, pour club soda onto a white cloth and blot the stain thoroughly. The club soda stops the absorption of the stain further into carpets.
  • White Vinegar diluted in warm water will attack carpet stains, it will dissolve oil and grease. The acid in vinegar paired with the warm water loosens stains, allowing for easier removal. Mix the vinegar and warm water, and blot the mixture onto carpet stains, lifting them from the flooring.
  • Liquid Dish Soap applied with a clean white cloth removes most stains from carpets. Grease-cutting dish soap works best on grease or ink stains. Soak a white cloth in the soapy water. Blot the stains with the soapy cloth, lifting the stains from the carpet. Blot soapy residue from the floor with the cloth, and press towels into the carpet to remove excess moisture from the carpets.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide used with other mixtures can remove pee stains from carpets and other materials. Avoid using ammonia based products to clean dog urine. One of the ingredients of dog urine is ammonia and your pet may well be encouraged to re-offend in the same area because they smell the ammonia
  • Baking Soda to clean up light-duty oil and grease spills to make it easier to clean.
  • Mayonnaise apply a small amount of solvent to a white cloth, then blot. Wait 15 minutes to dry. Repeat if necessary.  Rinse by blotting with a white cloth soaked in lukewarm water.
